Films That Capture the Beauty, Impact, and Spiritual Essence of Life
A Prayer Beyond Borders Feature
The Border Mosque & the Border Church gathered together at Friendship Park for a year, then COVID closed the park for almost all of 2020. In that year we kept our camera rolling and the Prayer Beyond Borders feature film captures the story of separated families who meet at the Border and the faith communities working to keep that space open. Our goal is to finish the film for the 50th anniversary of Friendship Park in the summer of 2021.
A Film Rooted in Community Organizing
There are not enough films that explore the true impact of community organizing, Transforming California from Red to Blue shows the true stakes of what can happen with long term investments in grassroots organizing in communities of color. We were blessed to come into this film and deeply impact the production led by the documentary film director, Tracy Quezada.
A Prayer Beyond Borders
Produced with MoveOn and CAIR California, Along the thousand-plus mile US/Mexico border there is only one place where families who have been separated by immigration policies have the ability to meet. At Friendship Park in Tijuana/ San Diego, the Border Church has committed to holding a binational service every Sunday to protect the right of families to meet in person. The Muslim community, similarly inspired to stand for justice in the borderlands, joined the Border Church to pray at the most militarized border in the world and to create a Border Mosque. This is the story of people coming together, across borders, across communities, across faiths, across languages, to stand united for justice and pray beyond borders.
Connecting the Diaspora of Hearts
With footage shot in India, Iran, Malaysia, Mexico, Tunisia, and the United States, Connecting the Diaspora of Hearts, is a short brand manifesto video originally produced and scripted for Beyond Borders Studios but then was slightly shifted and edited to fit the launch for the Center for Global Muslim Life.
The All-Seeing Eyes of Surveillance
An explainer style video telling a very big and complex story, “Over the last three years, the city of San Diego has built the United States' largest "smart city" platform. At the center of this platform are smart streetlights with video, audio, data collection, and artificial intelligence capabilities. This platform was pitched as a sustainability project, with no mention of these surveillance tools when it was approved by the San Diego city council. In this film, the TRUST San Diego coalition explores the unanswered questions about this platform and the deeper layers of surveillance at play in San Diego. ”
Vote for Our Future PSA
Produced by California Calls and the Othering and Belonging Institute, so much of production work is choosing the right director to lead the project. We were blessed to bring on Dominique DeLeon to lead this beautiful PSA project to reach diverse voters in California.
